BRT Driver sentenced to death by hanging for rape, murder of Bamise
The court ruled that the prosecution, led by the Lagos State Government, provided sufficient evidence to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
In a landmark judgment delivered on May 2, Justice Serifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court has sentenced Andrew Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the rape and murder of Bamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer.
The court ruled that the prosecution, led by the Lagos State Government, provided sufficient evidence to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judge pronounced the sentence, stating that Ominikoron would face capital punishment for his heinous crimes.
The defendant had been arraigned on four counts, including rape, conspiracy, and murder, stemming from the tragic incident on February 26, 2022, on the Lekki-Ajah Conservation expressway.
This verdict brings closure to the family and loved ones of the victim, while also serving as a stern warning to potential perpetrators of such crimes.
