Former President Jonathan flags off Bayelsa’s 25,000-capacity stadium

Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 25,000-capacity stadium in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The project, spearheaded by Governor Douye Diri, is aimed at boosting sports development in the state and providing a world-class facility for young athletes.
In his remarks, Dr. Jonathan commended Governor Diri and his team for their vision, describing the stadium as a major step toward youth empowerment and infrastructural growth in Bayelsa.
Governor Diri, while addressing dignitaries and sports enthusiasts at the event, emphasized the stadium’s role in inspiring young talents and positioning the state as a hub for sports excellence.
“Sports is about setting records and breaking barriers. Today, we take a bold step towards growth and development with this landmark project. This stadium will be a place where dreams take flight, talents are nurtured, and destinies fulfilled,” he stated.
The governor also called on the private sector and International Oil Companies (IOCs) to collaborate with the state government to ensure the project’s timely completion, stressing its potential to drive economic growth and attract national and international sporting events.
