Ikot Ekpene Divisional Police Welcomes SREN, Promises Collaboration in Public Security Sensitization
He assured the organisation that the police in Ikot Ekpene would continue to work in line with best practices in policing that balances human rights and crime prevention.
The Ikot Ekpene Divisional Police Officer, CSP Benjamin Adeoye, has assured Social Reorientation and Empowerment Network (SREN), a non-governmental organisation, of the division’s readiness to collaborate in the areas of information sharing, and public sensitisation on security issues within the area.
CSP Adeoye, gave the assurance recently, when he received a team of SREN in his office, led by its President, Dr. Daniel Evans Eshett.
He highlighted the recent successes of the division which included the arrest of kidnappers and armed robbers who have been operating in the area, attributing the achievements so far to efforts of officers and men of the division.
Adeoye, added that his achievements wouldn’t have been so smooth without the effort of the Commissioner of Police in the State, whom he described as a father who is committed to his work and ready to give his best to Akwa Ibom people.
The DPO noted that Ikot Ekpene residents have been very supportive in information sharing and the fight against crime in the area.
He assured the organisation that the police in Ikot Ekpene would continue to work in line with best practices in policing that balances human rights and crime prevention.
Speaking earlier, the President of SREN, Dr. Daniel Evans Eshett, stated that the body recognised the invaluable role of the Nigerian Police, particularly, that of the division in maintaining law and order in the area, ensuring public safety, and upholding justice in the society.
While commending the efforts the DPO, officers and men of the division, he used the medium to seek greater collaboration in building community engagement and public trust by strengthening the bond between the police and the people through sensitisation programmes, town hall meetings and other trust-building initiatives.
Dr. Eshett emphasised the importance of creating security awareness, which according to him would enlighten and inform the public on security measures, crime reporting, and active participation in community policing.
Further, Dr. Eshett noted that collaboration with the division in its security efforts would educate and empower young people, steering them away from crime and social vices through skill development and reorientation programmes.
